Summer Camp Counselor
Summer Camp Dates: June 3-August 9
Orientation: May 28-June 1 (Mandatory)
Basic Function:
Under the direction of the camp director and supervisors, counselors are responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, promoting, and evaluating their work assignments in the summer camp program. Some positions require valid driver’s license and have age requirements.
Qualifications:
- Individuals with experience and knowledge of camp activities and the ability to assist in overall operations
- Ability to demonstrate leadership, initiative, and creativity in order to establish and direct in a comprehensive recreation environment
- Must have dependable transportation
- Should be team oriented and flexible
- Must have patience and the ability to work with children and parents
- Must have the ability to read, write, and organize materials
- Must be able to supervise children
- Must have the ability to consult with children and parents
- Must have standard First Aid training and be CPR certified
- Must pass background check and drug screening
Specific Responsibilities:
Counselors are under direct supervision of the camp director and supervisors. Frequent contact will be made with participants and parents.
- Responsible for the operation of camp activities and the safety of children at the camp
- To establish a positive relationship with the camp director, supervisor staff, counselors, parents, campers and other staff
- Keep all equipment, rooms, and supplies in good working order
- Record attendance each week
- Work under varied weather conditions
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisors
- Dress appropriately and wear staff uniform
- Be punctual and repost at assigned time determined by camp director or supervisors
- Attend all summer camp training dates.
- Comply with the personnel manual, safety manual, and summer camp manual
The starting pay range for this position is $14. The hours vary from 7:00am-3:00pm or 10:00am-6:00pm (10-30 hrs./week or no more than 37.5 hours per week)
